VEHICLE DETAILS
ABOUT THIS CAR
THAT’s AMORE
THE MODEL
The third generation of the ‘Alfa Spider’ was introduced to the public in 1982, and featured a variety of mechanical and cosmetic improvements over its predecessors.
From the outside, the SIII Spiders are easily recognised by their distinctive ‘Duck Tail’ rubber spoilers and wrap-around black plastic bumpers, while under the body, the notoriously tricky SPICA fuel injection system was replaced by a friendlier electronic unit from Bosch.
Available in both 1.6L and 2.0L form, the Alfa twin-cam inline-4 engine was good for over 120bhp, and when joined to their tried-and-tested 5-speed manual transmission, was capable of almost 120mph.
THIS CAR
Offered for sale as a full RESTORATION PROJECT, our little Alfa Romeo 2.0L Spider SIII is in need of some TLC.
Having spent the last couple of years in a local storage facility collecting dust, general bodywork rust has started to take hold, most notably in the driver’s side footwell, though the overall structure of the car appears to be in fairly good order.
As you’d expect, the Alfa’s interior has faded and the leather needs some attention, but generally speaking, it’s all very salvageable.
Mechanically, we have had the car running and driving, and for the first few journeys it behaved rather well, though on more recent occasions we have been slightly less successful…
There appears to be a fairly significant oil leak coming from the engine, though it’s difficult to say from exactly where, and the car would certainly benefit from a healthy new battery.
Before retiring to storage, the Alfa received brand new Trailing Arm Bushes and Wiper Blades from Classis Performance Engineering, as well as over £2,000 worth of recommissioning work courtesy of DTR European Sports Cars.
